The UNHCR Montenegro together with the Red Cross of Montenegro distributed food and hygiene parcels to the citizens of the Northern municipalities impacted by severe floods in late 2010. The third phase of the help of the UN System in Montenegro was distributed on 22. February in municipalities of Plav and Andrijevica and in Berane on 23. of February. It is a part of the UN OCHA funds allocated for the population struck by the floods during late November and in the first half of December 2010. The help in food and non-food items is aimed to support 370 families or 1600 persons in total.
Breakdown per municipality:
The Red Cross of Montenegro provided the logistical support, while the assistance was provided by the Local branches of each municipality mentioned above.
The food assistance was distributed according to the World Food Programme standards, which means that each family will receive food assistance sufficient for one month. Food assistance and hygiene parcels have been provided by the UN OCHA, while the UNDP Montenegro conducted the bidding and procurement procedure, and the UNHCR Montenegro assisted in storing the food and preparation of distribution lists of flood affected families.
