The seventh meeting of the Joint Country Steering Committee which monitors implementation of the Integrated programme of cooperation between Montenegro and the United Nations for the period 2010-2016, was held in Podgorica. The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Luksic and Resident Coordinator of the UN System in Montenegro Rastislav Vrbensky.
“Finalisation of the UN Eco building undoubtedly contributed to the recognition of our country in the region and the world, but also to the fulfilment of the ‘One UN’ vision - the goal of the Integrated UN Programme and the concept of Delivering as One,” said Deputy Luksic .
Luksic emphasized that the cooperation between Montenegro and the UN system is the best practice example for countries in the region which are in the process of integration. He said that constructive partnership with the UN was a major contribution to the development of our country and also to the successful fulfillment of the Montenegrin integration agenda and the progress in the implementation of UN standards in different areas. Luksic also said that the newly created conditions for work under one roof will allow easier coordination of activities, strengthened partnerships and better inter-agency cooperation in all aspects, which will give an additional contribution to the achievement of our development priorities and the implementation of a number of activities “on our European path”.
UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro Rastislav Vrbensky thanked the representatives of the Government for the excellent cooperation in the implementation of the Integrated UN Programme and presented concrete results of Programme implementation in the past year. He expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the Government of Montenegro and the UN system in the country, pointing out that more than 12 million USD were realized through a number of joint projects and programmers in the last year, while the plan for the 2014 is implementation of projects worth 13.3 million.
"The fact that the first official event in the newly opened eco UN building is the meeting of the Joint Country Steering Committee which monitors implementation of the Integrated UN program, symbolically illustrates successful cooperation under the framework of the UN reform agenda Delivering as One," said Vrbensky.
UN Resident Coordinator reiterated that the working principle of the 'Delivering as One' proved to be an effective framework through which the UN System joins forces to support Montenegro in achieving national priorities, primarily the EU accession.
The meeting also saw approval of the Annual Work Plan for 2014 and the overview if the results of activities in 2013 in all three pillars of cooperation - social inclusion, democratic governance and sustainable economic development and environmental protection.
The meeting was held in the new UN headquarters in Podgorica, Montenegro which is among the few countries which managed to fulfil all four components of the integrated operation - one program, one leader, one budgetary framework and one office .
