The first internship programme in the UN Montenegro

UNDP actively participated in the design and recruitment process of the first internship program launched by the American Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro. The program aims to connect AmCham’s member companies with the students completing their final year of studies. The initiative is an effort to provide students with professional experience and exposure in order to increase their chances of quickly entering a labor market following completion of their studies.

The program will benefit the companies through not only providing a source of additional professional expertise but also allowing early access  to prospective employees that are in the top percentile in their respective Universities. The internship program placed 14 students within 7 AmCham companies and UNDP.

UNDP Country Office Montenegro filled three vacancies through the internship program: climate change mitigation (energy and transport), economic valuation of protected areas, and finance/administrative management. The results of their work with UNDP will be publicized at the end of the 6 month internship period.

Milena Maraš will work within the Operations team of the UNDP Country Office Montenegro as a finance/administrative intern.  Considering her professional interest in finance and accounting, Ms Maras will have the opportunity during the next six months to actively participate in the operational support to implementation of UNDP programs.  The internship program offers her a professional challenge and an opportunity to partner and network with professionals in the respective areas.  Previously Ms Maraš conducted an internship with the the State Audit Institution in July 2011.  She finished primary school ,, Milan Vukotić ’’ and secondary school ,,Slobodan Škerović’’ in Podgorica. She is  currently studying a third year of BSc financial management at Montenegro Business School, University ,,Mediterranean”. Milena plans the continuation of the specialization in the field of public finances or auditing. “I am extremely attracted by this opportunity and I hope that working for the UNDP will improve my skills and abilities. Joining the  Operations  team will allow me to get practice on some of the theory I have learned on my faculty. Considering the specificity of the organization as the UNDP and its professional stuff, I expect to gain a unique professional experience and goals“, said Milena.

Nikola Soldo will work within the Economy and Environment cluster of the UNDP Country Office Montenegro as a climate change mitigation intern.  Mr Soldo will focus on developing  energy efficiency as an incentive scheme for formalization and researching implementation of a carbon tax in transport system in Montenegro.  Both efforts seek to achieve dual goals of reducing GHG emissions and creating new, green jobs. In 2010, he graduated at the Faculty for International Economics, Finance and Business at University of Donja Gorica-UDG.  Mr Soldo will continue his education as at the Postgraduate studies “Entrepreneurial economy”, Master course „International economy and finance“ at same university. This is not Mr Soldo’s first internship experience as he firmly believes that theory needs to be complemented with practical experience. “I believe the program at UNDP is a great opportunity for gaining professional and life experience in a new corporate environment. It is also a chance to meet new people, gain new knowledge, and improve my communication skills. I hope that this unique experience will help me pave the way for successful professional career“, said Nikola.

Jovana Drobnjak will work within the Economy and Environment cluster of the UNDP Country Office Montenegro as a protected area finance intern.  Ms Drobnjak will work on introducing business planning in protected area system in Montenegro, a novelty that seeks to maximize economic returns from a sustainable use of natural resources.  She earned a bachelor‘s degree at Faculty for International Economy, finance and business, UDG and will continue her education at the Postgraduate studies “Entrepreneurial Economy” at the Department of International Economics. “UNDP internship program gives me an opportunity to see one whole new world of international organization. I hope I will gain substential knowledge about the mandate and operations of the UN system, and I look forward to adapting all the enthusiasm, faith and devotion for ideas, the features that stand out as the highest values ​​of UNDP. This internship programme will surely bring me a great portion of new knowledge and open-minded approach to work which will result in improving my skills and gaining new professional experiences that will enhance my future career“, Jovana stated.
