The UNDP Resident Representative discussed aspects of cooperation with the Minister of science

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Montenegro Alexander Avanessov met the Minister of Science Sanja Vlahovic to discuss possibilities of establishing cooperation between the Ministry of Science and UNDP in the field of science development in Montenegro.

Minister Vlahovic presented key points of the ongoing and planned activities aimed at achieving strategic objectives of the Ministry. “Promotion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in order to facilitate accession to international scientific programs and funding for science, as well as positioning of Montenegro in the European Research Area (ERA) are among the basic guidelines of the Ministry of Science.” – said Minister Vlahovic.

UNDP Resident Representative Alexander Avanesov welcomed the establishment of the Ministry of Science, recognizing that this is important step towards the affirmation of science as an engine of prosperity and social development. “In this context, UNDP will support the activities of the Ministry of Science, through transfer of knowledge and experience of other countries, through providing consulting assistance and cooperation in specific research projects important for development of Montenegro” – said Mr. Avanessov.

Mr. Avanesov and the Director of the UNDP Economy and Environment Cluster Ms. Milica Begovic Radojevic presented opportunities for cooperation on particular projects.

It was agreed that the representatives of the Ministry of science will take active part in the work of the Advisory Board of the UNDP for the preparation of a “National Report on Human Development in 2011. Year” focused on supporting development of human resources.
